You can pass a grammar quiz and still freeze when the interviewer says Cuéntame de ti — or when you stare at a blank LinkedIn “About” box in Spanish. Spanish for job interviews and a usable LinkedIn profile in Spanish are not the same skill as textbook chapters. They are short, reusable scripts under pressure, with Colombian / LatAm register that sounds professional without copying Spain-only templates.

I am Santiago Garnica, a Colombian lawyer and Spanish tutor. At Garnica & Co I teach structured 1:1 Colombian Spanish online for English and German speakers, with short bridges in English (C1) or German (B2) when a rule blocks you. Legal training shows up as clarity: define the message, strip noise, practice the line you will actually say.

This page is for German-speaking professionals who need interview Spanish and LinkedIn Spanish that survive a real call — not fifty synonyms for “team player.” For meeting and email drills first, see Spanish email & meeting phrases and business Spanish lessons.

Why German speakers stall in Spanish interviews

German professionals often prepare the wrong layer:

  1. Vocabulary lists without turn-taking. You know experiencia, logros, fortalezas — then the interviewer interrupts and you cannot repair.
  2. Literal translation from German self-intro scripts. Ich bin seit fünf Jahren… becomes stiff or wrong tense choices in Spanish.
  3. Spain textbook tone on a LatAm hiring call. Not always wrong, but not always what Bogotá or Mexico City expects.
  4. LinkedIn written in English only. Recruiters searching in Spanish never see you; or the machine-translated About section reads fake.

Apps raise recognition. They do not sit with you while you open with Mucho gusto, soy… and get corrected before the real interview. That loop is what private Spanish lessons online should deliver.

What “interview Spanish” should include

A work-focused lesson is 50 minutes. Interview prep usually covers:

  • 30–45 second intro (Cuéntame de ti / ¿Puedes presentarte?)
  • Why this role / why this company without a memorized TED talk
  • Strength + example (one story, not five)
  • Weakness / learning edge that sounds honest, not dramatic
  • Questions for them that sound curious, not aggressive
  • Polite closes and follow-up email stubs

We build your industry lines — law-adjacent, tech, ops, sales, academia — not a fake “Empresa XYZ” role-play forever.

German bridge when needed: false friends, ser/estar in “I am responsible for…,” past storytelling (pretérito vs imperfecto) for career timelines. See Spanish for German speakers and ser vs estar.

A reusable intro frame (say it out loud)

Most intros fail because they try to be complete CVs. Use a four-beat frame:

  1. Name + role now: Soy [nombre], [rol] en [área].
  2. Years + focus: Llevo X años en… / Me enfoco en…
  3. One concrete result: Por ejemplo, … (one number or outcome)
  4. Why you are here: Me interesa este rol porque…

Example shape (customize — do not copy as a tourist script):

Soy Ana Müller, project manager en operaciones. Llevo seis años coordinando equipos remotos en Europa y LatAm. Por ejemplo, redujimos el tiempo de entrega en un 20% el año pasado. Me interesa este rol porque quiero trabajar más cerca de clientes en Colombia.

In class we record, repair grammar that blocks understanding, and tighten length. Pretty adjectives come after clarity.

LinkedIn in Spanish — what actually matters

You do not need a novel. You need:

  • Headline that a recruiter can scan: role + domain + language signal if useful (Español B2 · English C1)
  • About of 5–8 short lines: who you help, what you do, proof, call to connect
  • Experience bullets that start with verbs: Coordiné…, Implementé…, Lideré…
  • Featured / Featured link only if it is real (portfolio, talk) — no fake metrics

Common German-speaker traps on LinkedIn Spanish:

  • Machine translate entire About → unnatural ser/estar, odd por/para
  • Over-formal Spain letters (Estimados señores) on a modern LatAm profile
  • Hiding Spanish level when Spanish is the hiring filter

We draft your About in lesson, then you paste and own it. I do not invent reviews or fake “5.0” social proof for your profile — and I will not invent them for mine either. Publishable student first names on this site stay limited to what editorial allows.

Interview phrases worth drilling (Colombian / LatAm default)

Openings:

  • Mucho gusto, gracias por la invitación.
  • Con gusto. ¿Empezamos?

Clarifying under pressure:

  • ¿Puedes repetir la pregunta, por favor?
  • Si te entendí bien, preguntas por…
  • ¿Te refieres a mi experiencia en X o en Y?

Strength / story bridge:

  • Una situación concreta fue…
  • El resultado fue…
  • Lo que aprendí fue…

Close:

  • ¿Hay algo más en lo que pueda profundizar?
  • Gracias por tu tiempo. Quedo atento / atenta a los siguientes pasos.

Pair these with email & meeting phrases for the thank-you note after the call.

A 15-minute drill (what we do before a real interview)

  1. Deliver your 40-second intro once without notes
  2. Repair three blockers (sound, grammar, or length)
  3. Answer one strength question with one story
  4. Ask one good question back
  5. Write a three-line follow-up email stub

Homework: the same intro on video once — watch for fillers (eh, bueno, German calques). Next lesson we cut them.

FAQ

Can I prepare for a Spanish job interview if my level is B1?

Yes, if we narrow scope: one solid intro, one strength story, repair phrases, and a short follow-up email. Perfect C1 vocabulary is not the goal. Clear B1 under pressure beats fancy words that disappear when you are nervous.

Do you help with LinkedIn text as well as speaking?

Yes. We draft headline and About in lesson, then you own the publish step. Speaking still comes first if the interview is soon — written polish second.

Colombian Spanish or neutral “international” Spanish?

Default is Colombian / Latin American professional register. If your interviewer is in Spain or the job requires Spain forms, we note differences. We do not pretend one textbook covers every country.

Will you explain interview grammar in German?

When it helps. Short German (B2) or English (C1) bridge for tense or ser/estar traps, then Spanish out loud. The interview will not be in German.

How many lessons before an interview next month?

Depends on starting level and how often you practice between sessions. Many professionals use a short pack (5 or 10) focused only on intro + stories + Q&A. Book the free class and we map a realistic plan.

How much do packs cost?

List $20 / 50 min. Single $20 · 5 for $85 · 10 for $160 (recommended) · 20 for $300.
